These are the exact positions the generator uses for 5160, measured from the edges of an 8.5" × 11" US Letter page. They are also the values Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, and Google Docs label add-ons ask for when you build a custom label template by hand.

How to print on Avery® 5160 sheets
- Type or paste your text into the generator above. Use one line per label for a list of names or addresses, or the same text on every label for return addresses and product stickers.
- Check the live preview. Text is kept at least 0.063" (1.6mm) inside each label edge, and auto-size shrinks long lines so they fit the 2⅝" × 1" label.
- Download the PDF and open it in any PDF viewer. Print at 100% / Actual size with "Fit to page" turned off, because any scaling shifts every label out of position.
- Print one test page on plain paper, lay it over a 5160 sheet, and hold both up to a light. If the text sits inside the die-cut outlines, load the label sheets and print the full run.
- Partly used sheet? Set "Start at label" to the first empty position (1 to 30, counted left to right, top to bottom) so the used labels are skipped.
Using Avery 5160 address labels
If you've searched for how to print 5160 labels from a spreadsheet, the usual answer involves opening Word, going to Mailings, running the Mail Merge wizard, picking Avery US Letter as the manufacturer and 5160 as the template, then pointing it at your Excel file and inserting merge fields one column at a time. It works, but it's a lot of setup for a one-time print run, and the wizard has a habit of misreading blank rows or ZIP codes stored as numbers.
Label Merge skips the wizard entirely. Copy the column of finished addresses out of Excel or Google Sheets — one recipient per line, already formatted the way you want it printed — and paste it straight into the generator's "Different text per label" mode. Each pasted line becomes its own label, in order, starting wherever you tell it to on the sheet. There's no merge-field mapping and no separate label-formatting document to keep in sync with your source data; if the spreadsheet changes, you paste again.
This works whether your source is a real mail-merge export, a CRM contact list, or a column you typed by hand. The 30-per-sheet, 3×10 layout is the most common Avery address label size in the US, so 5160 — and its many equivalents like 8160, 5260, and 5960, all sharing this exact geometry — covers most home-address, return-shipping, and small-batch mailing jobs. If you're printing more addresses than fit on one sheet, use the "Start at label" control to resume partway down a sheet you've already used a few labels from, instead of wasting the rest of it.
Avery 5160 questions
How many 5160 sheets do I need for 250 addresses?+
250 addresses at 30 labels per sheet works out to 9 sheets — 8 full sheets (240 labels) plus 10 more on a ninth. Print one extra sheet if you want a spare for reprints or a misprint.
Is Avery 8160 the same as 5160?+
Yes. 8160 uses the exact same 2.625" × 1", 3×10 layout as 5160 — Avery sells it as the inkjet-specific version of the same sheet. Any 5160 template, including this generator, lines up correctly on an 8160 sheet.
What's the difference between 5160 and 5960?+
Geometry-wise, nothing — both are 2.625" × 1", 30 per sheet. 5960 is Avery's laser-only "Easy Peel" line, while 5160 is sold as laser/inkjet compatible. Print settings and paper handling are otherwise identical.
Can I print return addresses and shipping addresses on the same 5160 sheet?+
Yes — paste both sets of addresses into the same list in whatever order you want them printed, and use "Start at label" if you're adding a second batch to a sheet you've already used a few labels from.
What are the page margins for Avery® 5160 labels?+
On a US Letter page, the first 5160 label starts 0.5" (12.7mm) from the top edge and 0.188" (4.8mm) from the left edge. The last row ends 0.5" (12.7mm) above the bottom edge, and the last column ends 0.188" (4.8mm) from the right edge.
Why is my Avery® 5160 printout misaligned?+
Almost always because the PDF was scaled. Print at 100% / "Actual size" with "Fit to page" or "Shrink oversized pages" turned off. Test on a plain sheet first, hold it against a 5160 sheet up to a light, and check that each text block sits inside a label with about 0.063" (1.6mm) of clearance.
Can I make an Avery® 5160 template in Microsoft Word instead?+
Yes — in Word's Label Options, choose New Label and enter a label width of 2.625" (66.7mm), height of 1" (25.4mm), top margin of 0.5" (12.7mm), side margin of 0.188" (4.8mm), horizontal pitch of 2.75" (69.8mm), vertical pitch of 1" (25.4mm), 3 across and 10 down. Or skip the setup and use the generator above, which already uses these numbers.
